Kyrls Quay

As part of the Cork City of Culture celebrations, this conceptual design was submitted for a design competition focused on the rehabilitation of a quay in Cork, Ireland. The hyperboloid paraboloid roof fabric, draping from the main catenaries, is supported by 4 inclined masts, evoking the symbolism of the rigging of the clippers that once unloaded their goods at the dock. The shape, drawing its inspiration from the nearby Cornmarket footbridge, is developed from the pure tensile forces within the structure. The inclined glass curtain walls break down the barriers to the river Lee creating once again a communion between the river and the public forum that this building contains for the modern day merchants.
